To Nigel Henderson from all your friends at SME Alliance - RIP

Very sadly, on 5th December 2020 our very good friend and founder member of SME Alliance, Nigel Henderson, lost his long battle with cancer. In the six years we have had the privilege of knowing Nigel he always the epitome of the kind of honest and decent business man this Country relies on to build the economy and promote the reputation of Britain and the British as fair and honourable people with a totally ethical business ethos. Unfortunately, the conduct of a major UK Bank who, in Nigel's case (and many other cases), had and in some cases still have, a totally unethical approach to business, and this meant that the last 20 years of Nigel's life were entirely dedicated to searching for justice against the wrongs done to him, his family and his business. Many of the SME Alliance members know Nigel's case and we remain astounded and devastated any Bank could allow such a great injustice to remain unresolved for even one year, let alone 20.

I could go into detail about the Henderson case (which continues) but, fortunately, and even although he is no longer with us, we do have the video of the very powerful speech Nigel gave at the Cambridge International Symposium On Economic Crime in 2016. No one has put the plight of the victims of economic crime more eloquently. On behalf of all our members we send our deepest condolences to Nigel's family. He will be sadly missed by us all.

We leave the final words to Nigel.

Norma, you should be exceptionally proud for the dogged determination Nigel showed right up until his final days to try and highlight bank wrongdoing.

I first met Nigel nearly a decade ago, and he was unwavering in his fight, but also determined to help other SMEs caught in the trap of bank wrongdoing. Nigel was an example of the kind of determination we all need, and even when the odds feel so stacked against us, he serves as a reminder to us and motivates us all to keep up the good fight.

I first met Nigel 5 years ago at a SMEA meeting in London. I learned the same bank that destroyed his business and devastated his life and that of his family is the same bank that did a similar sort of thing to me around the same time. We kept in regular touch over the years in our quest for justice against this bank. He inspired me and when my sister was diagnosed with cancer in April last year, he was great support to me. I am so sad that he is no longer with us. I spoke to him a few days before his passing. He told me to continue my quest for justice against this bank which I will do, same as Scott. I pay tribute to Nigel, a true gent and a legend who always had time to chat with me. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Nigel.

Nigel's speak was very powerful and emotive, it was without doubt from the heart.

His sentiments echo what countless individuals and families have and are still experiencing, who have been abused beyond belief, in with what can only be described as the greatest coverup of injustice to affect countless thousands in modern times.

The organisations and individuals MUST be held accountable. How do they not only look their own families in the eye and justify their action and sleep at night?

All backed up by the toothless monster that is the FOS.

Please keep up the fight.

Kind Regards

Mark Hopkins LICWCI

It was a privilege to have known Nigel and hoped that he would see justice. Even although he had endured this battle for so many years, he was always there to listen to other victims. We have only had the pleasure of meeting Norma once and wish her and the family our deepest sympathy. KBO!!! with our love Hamish and Lorna.

Dear all SME community.

Both Mum and I are truly honoured, touched and humbled firstly that Dad is being remembered in this way and by all your kind words/comments left here on SME Alliance blog and on twitter after his death. He only ever wanted justice for all that have been wronged by the banks, sadly his life was taken before seeing justice, but we will continue in his legacy.

Thank you all very much,
Scott, Norma, and Family

To all Nigel's family,

I did not know Nigel well personally, but of course by weight of personality we all "knew" Nigel. I am saddened that he did not live to see justice achieved, however in some Zoom meetings he participated in so very recently I think he knew that Justice was on its way in a manner that it never has been previously. Some of us have and continue to make enormous progress in our knowledge of what happened and why together with the all important how. Much will be revealed soon. Meantime maintain your faith in all things but most especially in the values and principles that Nigel embodied all of which should make you imeasurably proud. All best wishes, thoughts and prayers,

Mark Banister.

Paul, Sophie, Laura and I will miss Nigel. Over and above his amazing determination and resilience against all that happened to him, he was also such a gentleman. Kind, logical and unbelievably positive despite all.

Our condolences and very best wishes go to Norma, Scott and the family.

I didn't know Nigel well, but I did have the pleasure of meeting him at the SME Alliance meetings. He came across as a kind and gentle sole that only ever wanted to have back what had been taken away from him and his family.

With deepest sympathy.

Very Sad To Hear The Loss Of Nigel My First Contact Was One I Will Never Forget As I Was Asked By Nigel About My Treatment By Rbs

Nigel Like Myself Had So Much In Common In The Way Rbs Had Treated Its Customers There was A Silence As I Explained The Suicide The Failed Police Investigation The Fos Refusing Totally To Accept The Undisputed Evidence I Provided To Rbs

The Actions of Rbs Can only be described as Utterly Disgusting in Particular To Nigel And Hes Family And To Continue With Its Lawyers Refusing to Settle and Bring Closure Before Nigel Sadly Passed Away is Exactly How Rbs Treated Myself as The Hospital Explained My Mother was Given Hours as She was Dying

Rbs Need to be Exposed For Exactly What They are And the Appalling Treatment Of Nigel And Hes Family Who have Been Put Through Such A Horrible Experience At Such a Sad Time

Nigel Will Be Remembered by Many For All His Efforts In Exposing The Treatment Of Rbs Customers And I Would Like To Thank Nigel And The Family Personally For All His Hard Work And Hope Rbs Now Settle Nigels Claim to Allow His Family Closure

If I Can Help In Anyway Please Feel Free To Contact Me

Although I never met Nigel had obviously seen him at meetings I was saddened to
Learn of his passing and send sincere condolences to his family. Like so many RBS victims we could relate to every aspect of Nigel’s very eloquent speech, the fight must continue for the justice we all deserve

I always enjoyed my conversations with Nigel. I did not know him for very long, but during the times that I spoke and corresponded with him, he was always kind, considerate and patient. He had a deep belief in what he was fighting for (justice for him, his family and others) and rightly so. Nigel will not be forgotten.

We send Nigel's family much love and support. Keep up the good fight! Rest in peace Nigel.
